A Pencil, A Book, A Future: Help Sabah Alsudan Send 5,000 Children Back to School

In a displacement camp in North Darfur, a young girl named Fatima wakes up early every morning. She watches the other children walk past her tent, their worn uniforms clean and their secondhand books clutched tightly. She watches them disappear down the dusty road toward the school she cannot afford to attend.

Fatima wants to learn. She dreams of becoming a teacher, a doctor, something that will lift her family out of the poverty that has defined their lives. But her family, like millions across Sudan, faces an impossible choice: food or school fees, medicine or books, survival or education.

No child should have to make this choice.

Sudan is in the grip of an education crisis of staggering proportions. Even before the current conflict, three million school-age children were out of school. Today, that number has skyrocketed to an estimated 7 million children—a generation at risk of losing not just a year of learning, but their entire future .

The reasons are everywhere you look. Conflict has displaced millions, tearing children from their classrooms. Poverty forces families to prioritize food over fees. Child labor and early marriage pull girls and boys out of school before they can read or write . A lack of school meals means hungry children cannot learn, and poor nutrition affects their ability to concentrate and retain knowledge . The physical environment is poor, teaching materials are scarce, and dropout rates are climbing .

But Sabah Alsudan is fighting back.

Sabah Alsudan (SABAH Association for Child Care and Development) is a Sudanese organization dedicated to ensuring that every child—no matter how vulnerable, no matter how displaced—has access to quality, safe, and inclusive education . We work on the front lines, in the hardest-hit communities across North and Central Darfur, North and South Kordofan, Sennar, and Khartoum, reaching the children who need us most .

Through our partnership with Save the Children, World Vision, and the European Union, we are already making a difference for 83,000 children, including 600 children with disabilities . But there are millions more waiting. And we cannot reach them without you.

Your support sends a child back to school with the tools they need to learn, grow, and dream. A notebook and pencil may seem small, but to a child like Fatima, they are the keys to a different life.

What Your Contribution Provides:

  • $25 - School supplies for one student: notebooks, pens, pencils, and essential learning materials

  • $50 - Uniform and books for one child: a complete uniform plus textbooks for the school year

  • $100 - Full school kit for one student: uniform, books, supplies, and a school bag

  • $500 - Sponsor a classroom of 20 students: ensuring an entire class has everything they need to learn

Education is more than reading and writing. It is protection from early marriage and child labor. It is nutrition through school meals that keep children healthy and focused . It is a safe space where children's rights are respected and their voices are heard . It is the single most powerful tool we have to break the cycle of poverty for good.
